Itinerary
The Alta Via 9 is known as The Transversal because it runs west to east across the Dolomites instead of north to south. Over seven days, you’ll hike with your guide through a mix of alpine meadows, rocky passes, and historic trails linking some of the region’s most distinctive valleys and cultures.Programma ( 7 )

Day 1
Arrive in Ortisei, Val Gardena, in the Dolomites
Your Dolomite adventure begins in Ortisei, the heart of Val Gardena. Check into your hotel and you’ll meet your guide who will host a short welcome and orientation. If time allows, we’ll stroll through the village or ride the Rasciesa funicular for sunset views. Ortisei blends Ladin, Italian, and German cultures and sits between Rasciesa High Plateau and Alpe di Siusi, Europe’s largest alpine meadow. Settle in, because tomorrow we hit the trail!
-
Day 2
Hike the Val Ciamin Valley
We’ll start with a transfer to the Sciliar–Catinaccio Nature Park, where your guide will lead you into the untamed beauty of Val Ciamin. Towering limestone spires rise from green forests as you ascend the valley. By afternoon, we’ll reach our first cozy mountain hut surrounded by the rosy glow of the Rosengarten peaks.
-
Day 3
Hike on the Alpe di Siusi Ridge
After breakfast, you’ll follow your guide onto the high ridges of Alpe di Siusi, where vast green pastures and wildflowers stretch for miles. We’ll stop for a hearty mountain lunch before continuing along a scenic ridge toward the Sassolungo group. We’ll reach our next rifugio in the evening, where you can rest up and enjoy the cozy alpine vibe.
-
Day 4
Hike on the Sella Massif
Today you’ll cross one of the Dolomites’ most iconic formations—the Sella Massif. Your guide will lead you along a panoramic trail clinging to its southern face, where every turn unveils giants like Marmolada and Civetta. The day ends at a rifugio perched on a rock ledge, perfectly positioned for sunset views over the stunning peaks. -
Day 5
Hike on the Pralongia High Plateau
We’ll start early, hiking through the rolling meadows of the Pralongià Plateau, a sea of wildflowers framed by jagged peaks. Your guide will point out WWI trenches and the ancient Setsass ridgeline. After lunch at a sunny rifugio, we’ll continue toward Passo Valparola, rich in history and alpine beauty.
-
Day 6
Hike Cima Sief to Col di Lana
Today, we’ll hike through open ridges that once echoed with the battles of WWI. Guided by your local expert, you’ll summit Cima Sief and, if conditions allow, Col di Lana, the infamous “Blood Mountain.” From here, descend to the peaceful Livinallongo Valley, where our Dolomite journey winds to a close with a private transfer to your hotel in Arabba.
