Itinerary

Alpe di Siusi, or Seiser Alm in German, ranks among Europe's largest and most beautiful alpine meadows. Sitting between 1,700 and 2,000 meters (5,577' to 6,562'), it lies within Val Gardena and the Sciliar-Catinaccio Nature Park.
This hiking tour begins in Siusi, where you'll take the cable car to the trail head. From there, you’ll set off on an easy clockwise loop around Mount Bullaccia that has amazing views of the Sciliar, Sasso Lungo, Sasso Piatto, the Marmolada, and across Val Gardena to the Odle mountain group.
On the hike you’ll visit the incredible viewpoint at Goller Kreuz, and the Witches' Benches (Panche delle Streghe / Hexenbänke) which are two massive red porphyry stones mysteriously perched on the mountain's western slope. Midway through the day, you’ll pause at a rifugio for a tasty, traditional two-course South Tyrolean lunch. You’ll hike to Filln Kreuz, another stunning spot revealing sweeping views of Ortisei, Santa Cristina, and Selva di Val Gardena. The loop completes along a level trail across Bullaccia's slopes, taking about an hour to return to Compaccio.

What You Need to Know

Layering for Mountain Weather
Summer temperatures can hit 80°F / 25°C in the valleys but drop to 60°F / 15°C on summits during the day and as low as 30°F / 0°C in the evening. Layer up with synthetic fabrics like polypropylene or Capilene®—they wick moisture and dry fast. Wool or wool/synthetic blends work too. Always pack rain gear; mountain weather changes fast.

Footwear Tips
Break in new boots or trail running shoes before your trip. Pack blister protection like Band-Aid Blister Block—even old shoes can cause trouble on long days.
Trail running shoes are built for off-road terrain with deeper lugs, aggressive tread, and stiffer soles to protect against rocks and roots.

Trekking Poles
Recommended for those that need knee support on descents and added stability. Practice with one or two before the trip. Price is around €45 per stick. Not required for everyone, but they help.
